The banter is a bit of a break from the more straight badassery of Master Chief, but hey Its Nathan Fillion! His usual flair between competent to the role and his cowboy-esque attitude? It's great. Still, I genuinly think he gives a good flavor to his character. Can't go wrong there, but I love him as an actor since I saw him in Dr Horrible's Sing Along Blog (and Firefly after). And the cast is great, most notably carried by Nathan Fillion as Gunny. And this time its also jarring since you have a more interesting cast around you. So you play as another blank slate like in Reach. Story & Characters (10/10, but I'm biased) I thought it could be interesting to have that come back, but they fall back to hold-your-ground or advance gameplay styles. In the beginning they show that you could flank through a building, which was interesting, but then later in the game they block off most buildings making this mechanic useless. There were some interesting decisions early game that I feel they didnt follow through on. But the carbine got a serious boost and was the primary weapon I used throughout the game. A shame that the needler, after being useful in HALO 2 dropped to trash in this game again. Interesting is that while you don't have shields, you still got stamina that acts like a shield? I guess they wanted to keep the gameplay close to the HALO feel while still not being a SPARTAN. We see the return of the Health bar after dropping it in HALO 2. It sorely lacks the imaginative colours that the other games excel in. It is also the first game that didn't get a graphics overhaul while it still needed it. There is some variation, but nothing to write home about. Long same-y levels are sort of par for the course, but ODST doesn't do anything to improve it. Of all the HALO games thusfar, ODST was graphically and aestethically the least interesting. I think so far, having finished my 4th HALO game, my favorites list goes HALO, HALO 2, ODST, then Reach. So I'm still playing through the Master Chief Edition and I just finished HALO 3: ODST.
